The Lab
CAC Lab is dedicated to exploring the impact of art, design, science, and technology on contemporary global culture and society. Through co-creative approaches, we support bold experimentation and encourage creative risks that lead to critically engaged outcomes at the intersection of technical and artistic inquiry.

RESEARCH | CREATION
At the core of CAC Lab is the praxis of Research and Creation (R/C), which integrates artistic practice with scientific methodologies through hands-on experimentation. R/C treats both cultural and technological inquiry as essential to contemporary art, emphasizing approaches over specific technical know-how. It fosters a Do-It-With-Others ethos to challenge rigid epistemologies and catalyze participatory, grassroots innovation. Together, we explore how technology might be recalibrated—to sense entanglement, decode the non-human, and activate agency and creativity in learning to live with uncertainty, decay, composting, and emergence.
R/C produces, shares, and documents its core innovations through the CAC Tools platform and CAC GIT.
CAC Research and Creation inquires:
Infrastructure_ Code, Cables, Circuits, Cells
We interrogate and maintain digital, social, and (extra)natural infrastructures. Through data gathering, harvesting, sharing, and preservation, we explore the complexities, interdependencies, and entanglements within networked systems.
Keywords: Data Centers, Infrastructures, Natural Networks and Processes
Interface_ Intimacy, Immediacy, Interruption
We design human-computer interfaces that challenge normative input/output paradigms, dissolving boundaries between human, non-human, and machine interaction. We aim toward DIY, adversarial, and post-intuitive interfaces that resist standardization and invite queering.
Keywords: Human-Computer Interfaces, Object-Oriented Computing, Perma-Computing, Nonbinary Interfaces
Instruments_ Sensing, Surrogation, Symbiosis
We examine how technology mediates perception and reality. Through practices such as synesthesia, sensory substitution, biomimicry, and biofeedback, we question how tools extend cognition and foster symbiosis between species. What is the smell of WiFi?
Keywords: Neural Networks, Cross-Species Intelligence, Waves and Particles
Interaction_ Inclusivity, Immersion, Iteration
Technology is neither singular nor neutral. R/C recognizes its multiplicity, shaped by diverse epistemologies and localized practices. We embrace iteration not only as a design method but as a mode of sustainability—each project becoming input for the next.
Keywords: Co-Creation, Co-Inspiration, Co-Habitation, Endemic Knowledge, Open Source
