Producer and curator are different identities in the context of art exhibition. However the production on site represented by the former is inevitable to interact and overlap with the content conception represented by the later.
Richard Castelli, an exhibition professional who identifies himself as both producer and curator, will elaborate the subjet of this dual identity, supported by concrete examples from his exhibition practices. XIANG Liping, head of exhibition at PSA, OrangeZ, head of exhibition at CAC, will join the disscusion with their own perspectives from their own experiences.


Richard Castelli
Richard Castelli is the director of Epidemic and curator of exhibitions: a. o. in Berlin (Berliner Festspiele, Martin-Gropius-Bau), in Shanghai (three exhibitions), in Roma (four exhibitions with Romaeuropa, two at MACRO), in Istanbul (twice at Borusan Foundation) and in France (including the recent “Robotic Art” in Cité des sciences et de l’industrie in Paris). He is the producer of Bruyère, Du Zhenjun, Dumb Type, Granular Synthesis, Hentschläger, Langheinrich, Lepage, Shaw, Takatani and Teshigawara. He produced several 360°immersive, interactive or 3D artworks. He directed several films broadcast worldwide and received numerous awards in Brazil and Spain, amongst other countries. He was the Senior Curator of Lille 2004 Cultural Capital of Europe. He co-curates the BODY MEDIA II exhibition at Power Station of Art opening on the 28th of April.

XIANG Liping
Born in 1976, Xiang Liping is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the China Academy of Art. Since joining the Biennale office at the Shanghai Art Museum in 2006, Xiang has been responsible for expanding and advancing the Biennale, which involved preparation of far-ranging programs for each of the Shanghai Biennale exhibitions. In 2011, she wrote a feasibility report on founding a state-run contemporary art museum: the Power Station of Art (PSA). She has been the Head of the Exhibition Department at PSA since 2013, concurrently in charge of the Shanghai Biennale and the PSA collection program.

OrangeZ
Graduated from Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts with a bachelor in Digital Media, she has been working since in the field of Media Art, first as assistant of the artist HU Jieming, currently as Head of Exhibition at CAC.
