CAC Atelier | Build A Voltage Controlled Atari Punk Console

Language: English

Date: 23/06/2018

Time: 11am – 5pm

Location: Chronus Art Center (No.18 Bldg, No.50 Mo Gan Shan Rd)

Introduction

This workshop is designed for anyone interested in exploring sound design, music composition and most of all building your own synthesizers, noise makers and sound effects. We will be learning how to build a voltage controlled Atari Punk Console (APC) based on the very cheap 556 dual timer chip and other components. We will also learn what oscillators are and how oscillators create notes through voltage control from other synthesizers such as modulars, soldering components on a printed circuit board (PCB) and mounting the finished APC into a small project box or containers such as tea boxes, etc.

For this workshop we will be using basic physical computing tools such as soldering irons and a drill press to drill holes into the project case. You will be provided with a PCB and the components to solder them to it. You will use a container to drill holes into it to fit the PCB, attach the inputs/output and potentiometers. But don’t worry about any technicality, this workshop will teach you all the basics from scratch.
