Music has always fulfilled an important function within the development of contemporary youth cultures. The endless emergence of new genres of music carries values that define its own socio-cultural context and aesthetics. With a primary goal to expand an open-minded community, the musician and producer HAN Han (GOOOOOSE) and 33 (Boojii, Duck Fight Goose) initiated The Centaurs as a platform to incubate new forms of live performances, sound experiments and improvisations by integrating sound, visual art and advanced technology. During this session, HAN and 33 will share their thoughts on how the fusion of sounds articulates new aesthetic tendencies, as well as discuss how musical practises engage with the complexities of contemporary youth phenomena.

Starting with the improvisation with HAN Han, 33 and SoundSpade, the workshop will introduce two concepts of Sound Synthesis and Deep Listening.
In the session of Sound Synthesis, audience will learn how to make the ideal sound in the mind with software/hardware. HAN will demonstrate through live production as the audience manually operates the controller.
In the session of Deep Listening, HAN and 33 will provide the audience a basic ear-training. Throughout the oscilloscope, people will actually be able to "see" the music through shapes and patterns, to test the accuracy of their hearing.

About The Centaurs
All posters are designed by HAN Han, and all central fractal shapes are algorithmic iterations base on the feature on the last poster.
About Soundspade
Based in Shanghai, China — SoundSpade is the solo and dj project of Benjamin Bacon (USA). He is the co-creator and resident DJ for Black Eyeliner and the founder, organizer and resident musician for Voltage Divider, a series of live music and media events in Shanghai and Beijing that explore different experimental and avant-garde musical styles and non-traditional production methods. He is the co-founder of Dogma Lab, a cross-disciplinary media and design consultancy based in Shanghai where he also designs and produces his own line of musical instruments and synthesizers under the brand Dogma E-Sound. He is currently a Professor of Computational and Media Design at Shanghai Institute of Visual Art and formerly an Assistant Professor of Art in the Interactive Media Arts program at New York University - Shanghai, an Assistant Professor of Computational and Media Design in the Design + Technology program at Parsons School of Design and the former Director of the undergraduate Design + Technology program at Parsons School of Design.
